Update For My Readers

A quick update for my readers: My parents and fiancée are in town for a few more days, so postings will be thin.

Christmas: Santa was good to me this year— plenty of books and gadgets to keep me entertained. Upcoming reading: Where Have All the Leaders Gone? by Lee Iacocca; The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini; The Google Story by David Vise and Mark Malseed.

Also, I am planning to purchase a new laptop in the very near future. If you have recommendations please send them my way.

Have a great New Year!

If you are looking for computers at your favorite store, Best Buy, keep in mind that they price match. I looked all around the internet trying to find the computer I wanted for less, but couldn't. That's because Best Buy changes their sales from week to week, usually Sunday. I went on a Saturday, and found a computer for one price, only to find that on Sunday, the sales changed, and that computer went up $150. A different computer that I was looking at went down $200 from the previous day. Do not expect to buy the computer the first day you go.

Good point. I haven't challenged anyone with a price match for a long time. Do you know anything about the Apple notebook computers?

I just got a Macbook Pro about 6 months ago and love it, will never buy a pc again. Mac makes it fun to use your computer, not a chore. Tons of awesome features that make getting around faster and more simple. Plus, never freezes up and takes only about 10 seconds from hitting power to the login screen.

A bit more expensive, but we bought ours refurbished off the Apple website for about a 35% discount. Highly recommend this route, the computers are normally just returned for small issues, some just because the buyer realized he can't afford it, etc. They run them through the same tests as a new one, so really they are like brand new.

One thing though, we got the Pro, but really would have been fine with the plain old MacBook. The pro is good if you are planning on doing a lot of media stuff like video, photo editing, etc. But, if you're just going to check e-mail, blog, surf the web the MacBook will do just fine.

I've been hearing a lot about the Macbooks. I'll keep it in mind before making a decision. It may be a bit before I'm ready to drop $1000!

I just bought an IBM ThinkPad T61, pretty well equipped for $1100. I grew up with a ThinkPad so I'm biased, but they're powerful machines. It really depends on if you're looking for an entertainment package, power computing, portability, the list goes on.

I did narrow it down to Dell or IBM...they're at least good starting points. Good luck!

I had a ThinkPad during my time at the Academy and it did great, I agree with Akshay that it's a good choice...no Macbook, but a good choice nonetheless, haha.
